Uncle Mike-isms

This past weekend Mary and I bought a new car. It is a Saturn Ion and it is going to be a great little car for us. The story goes as follows...

We enter onto the lot of the Saturn of the Permian Basin car dealership and proceed to exit out vehicle and wander around. We begin looking at used cars and a salesman comes up and starts to small talk. Yada yada yada. We test drive a used Honda and decide we don't really like that car so we decide to test drive a new 2007 Ion. I didn't particularly like them because the speedometer is in the middle of the dashboard just above the radio controls. The salesman went off about how much better it is for your ergonomics and stuff. Yeah yeah oh well. I'm sure he had a little pamphlet that taught him exactly what to say and how to say it. Anyways it ends up that it isn't so bad and we like the car. They had a good deal going on and we have okay credit for a newlywed couple so they gave us 0% financing. So, after being at the dealership for 3 hours we are taken to a finance managers office to complete some paper work. He asked us to sign some things and we said that we would like to go to lunch first and just think it over. The guy freaked out and said, "I thought we were gonna do business!" It was crazy how much the guy changed in the two minutes we met with him.

So we left and actually went to a few different dealerships and begged them to make us a better deal than that which we had received from the Saturn place. Long story short nobody could and we called the Saturn place back and requested a different finance manager for our purchase. Everything about buying a car through Saturn was great except for that one guy, I hope that everything goes well from here on out.

PS- The Uncle Mike-ism of this whole ordeal comes from the great deal that we got on the car. When he bought a new truck, even though it wasn't the brand that he had grown up with and loved, he said, "Even though I love chocolate cake, when they are giving away cherry tarts, you take a cherry tart!" We were given such a good deal with this car that it was worth calling and asking to be treated with respect by another individual rather than just leaving the dealership altogether, which is what I most likely would have done had the deal not been so delightful.

PPS- Running is going well and tomorrow I must run 8-9 miles.
